In a recent turn of events, Larian Studios has confirmed that Baldur's Gate 3 will not be released on the Nintendo Switch 2. This announcement came from Larian CEO, Swen Vincke, who stated, 'It wasn’t our decision to make,' leaving fans disappointed. Although Vincke did not provide further details, industry insider NateTheHate has provided some insight into the situation via Twitter. According to him, despite Larian's interest in a Switch 2 release, their relationship with Hasbro/Wizards of the Coast has been a barrier. NateTheHate mentioned he received indications of this decision 'late last year,' suggesting that a lack of mutual understanding and unresolved differences between Larian and Hasbro could be the cause. Speculation suggests that the issue may be related to an earlier Dungeons and Dragons project by Larian that was halted mid-development, possibly leading to strained relations. Despite this setback, Baldur's Gate 3 has been a major commercial success, earning $90 million shortly after its early access period and selling over 20 million units worldwide. This success adds to the intrigue surrounding the discord with Hasbro, a company that has financially benefited from the game's achievements. On another front, fans eagerly awaiting Larian's next major title, Divinity, remain hopeful for its release. Although it currently lacks a specific launch date, it is expected that Divinity will follow the path of its predecessors by offering early access and showcasing extensive turn-based combat along with co-op gameplay. Newcomers are assured by Vincke that the game will be accessible and enjoyable even for those new to the series, while providing enriched experiences for long-time fans.
