In a significant development, authorities have arrested a suspect nearly two decades after the shooting death of Raymond Cardenas in Highgrove, Riverside County. The investigation, which had lingered unsolved since 2006, gained momentum when the Riverside County Sheriff's Central Homicide Unit revisited the case, applying modern investigative techniques to cold case files. Raymond Cardenas, 21, was discovered with fatal gunshot wounds on June 18, 2006, having been shot a short distance from where he collapsed seeking assistance. Initially, the investigation pointed to Anthony Miera, but insufficient evidence stalled progress for years. In August 2025, the cold case was reopened, leading to new findings. The Central Homicide Unit, collaborating with the District Attorney’s Gang Impact Team, gathered the requisite evidence to charge Miera with murder. On December 26th, Miera, now residing in Spring Valley, was apprehended without incident and incarcerated at the Robert Presley Detention Center. Despite the arrest, the investigation continues, with authorities urging anyone with additional information to reach out to lead investigator Dan Brown at 951-955-2777.
