ORLANDO, FL − Michigan football is on the brink of enhancing its coaching staff with the potential appointment of Jay Hill as the defensive coordinator. Sources have indicated that the Wolverines are 'very, very' close to reaching an agreement with Hill, who is currently serving as BYU's defensive coordinator. Hill, aged 50, has an impressive track record, having recently led the BYU Cougars to victory in the Pop-Tarts Bowl against Georgia Tech. His tenure at BYU has been noteworthy for significant defensive accomplishments under head coach Kalani Sitake. Additionally, Hill brings a wealth of experience from his nine seasons at Weber State, where he became the most successful coach in the program's history with a 68-39 record, securing four Big Sky Conference titles and making six FCS Tournament appearances. Michigan's growing interest in Hill is driven by his previous connections with renowned coach Kyle Whittingham, who transformed Utah's football program. Hill's coaching career began at Utah, where he spent 12 seasons under Whittingham, advancing from a graduate assistant to special teams coordinator. Born in Lehi, Utah, and a longtime resident of the Beehive State, Hill's strong regional roots include stints at Weber State in Ogden and BYU in Provo. These experiences have contributed to his strong defensive skills and leadership abilities. Although BYU head coach Kalani Sitake refrained from confirming the rumors, he suggested that any announcement would come directly from Hill himself.
