The iconic Times Square ball drop will take on a new patriotic hue this New Year's Eve, featuring red, white, and blue colors to usher in 2026. This event marks the beginning of a significant year for the United States as it gears up to celebrate its 250th birthday. Overseen by America250 Chair Rosie Rios, the event is a prelude to a year brimming with nationwide commemorations of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Rosie Rios, leading the bipartisan commission tasked with orchestrating the anniversary celebrations, promises an unprecedented event, calling it the most inspirational celebration ever. This year's ceremony at Times Square is being adjusted in collaboration with the Times Square Alliance and One Times Square, heralding additional festivities on July 3 with a second ball drop. A tradition that began in 1907, the Times Square ball drop has a rich history, only halted during World War II due to citywide blackouts. The New Year's Eve ceremony for this milestone year will also launch 'America Gives,' a national service initiative aiming to make 2026 the highest volunteer-engagement year on record. Additionally, America250 will join the Rose Parade in Pasadena, California, showcasing a float themed around the nation's 250-year journey. The celebrations, which will include everything from fireworks and potlucks to educational contests, aspire to unite the nation. With projects spanning from Alaska to Guam and ideas like President Donald Trump's 'Freedom 250,' the vision is to offer something for everyone, encouraging participation from all 350 million Americans.
