In a significant diplomatic step, the Armenian Minister of Economy, Gevorg Papoyan, and Israel's Ambassador to Armenia, Yoel Lion, recently convened to explore avenues for enhancing economic collaboration between the two nations. The discussions, held in Yerevan, focused on increasing trade volumes and initiating joint investment programs. Key areas of cooperation include agriculture, water resource management, and tourism. Minister Papoyan presented Ambassador Lion with details of pivotal projects, namely TRIPP and 'Crossroad of the World', aimed at unlocking regional transport routes. He extended an invitation to participate in the 'Crossroad of the World' investment summit scheduled in Armenia for 2026. The meeting also saw the involvement of Israel's Honorary Consul, Ashot Shakhmuradyan, highlighting the growing diplomatic ties. Armenia-Israel relations have historically been complex, notably strained by Israel's armament sales to Azerbaijan, which were used during the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Despite these challenges, recent developments show a warming of ties. On November 27, 2025, the 12th political consultations between the Armenian and Israeli Ministries of Foreign Affairs took place in Jerusalem, reaffirming mutual commitment to bolstering bilateral political and economic relations, including high-tech, medicine, agriculture, and tourism sectors. This new dialogue marks a pivotal shift in the Armenia-Israel relationship, paving the way for a potentially prosperous partnership.
