CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The century-old tradition of holiday lighting displays at GE Lighting's Nela Park in East Cleveland has taken on a new dimension this year. Once a centralized spectacle, the iconic lights have been distributed throughout the region, giving birth to a festive scavenger hunt for Northeast Ohioans. After marking its 100th anniversary last year, the famous display at Nela Park has relocated, spreading festive cheer across various communities. GE Lighting, now part of Savant, initiated this change by donating parts of its vast collection to neighborhoods across Northeast Ohio. In Ohio City, a myriad of displays now illuminates Market Square Park, bringing the magic of Nela Park right into the heart of the community. Across notable spots, including West 29th Street and Cleveland Fire Station No. 4, the lights reintroduce a nostalgic holiday spirit. Moving downtown, the historic Nela Park tradition has merged with Downtown Cleveland Inc.'s Winterland display. Highlights include decorated areas around Soldiers and Sailors Monument and Key Tower, further embedding Nela Park's legacy into the cityscape. Beyond city confines, the lights have been shared with the Western Reserve Historical Society, Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Ohio, and several other local organizations, broadening the reach and spirit of the storied displays. Visitors can enjoy the gleaming sights at the Cleveland History Center and participate in festivities at venues like Lock 3 Park in Akron and the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. A highlight for traditionalists: a replica of the National Christmas Tree still stands, glowing at Nela Park for those yearning for the nostalgia of the drive down Noble Road. This year's lighting confluence not only maintains a cherished tradition but amplifies its impact across new horizons.
