Azerbaijan criticizes several provisions of the Armenia–EU signed document. The document titled 'Strategic Agenda of the Armenia–EU Partnership,' which was signed last week in Brussels between the European Union and Armenia, is described by the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry as contradicting the peace agenda with Azerbaijan. In its statement, Baku said it had a serious concern about prioritizing several issues in the document, which distort the realities of the post-conflict period and generally contradict the peace agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia. It should be recalled that it was signed as a result of the sixth meeting of the Armenia–EU Partnership Council, which took place on December 2 in Brussels. It is completely unacceptable that in this bilateral document, which sets out the strategic priorities for the next seven years between Armenia and the European Union, there are provisions directed against Azerbaijan. This also has a negative impact on the prospects for Azerbaijan–EU relations. According to Baku, one problematic point is that the document uses the formulation 'Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh, who after Azerbaijan's military actions became displaced persons' in its preface and other sections. The Azerbaijani side regards labeling these people as refugees as an obvious display of prejudice against Azerbaijan. Additionally, Azerbaijan criticizes the document's support for the full implementation of decisions adopted by international courts. The Azerbaijani side believes this shows that 'the EU supports Armenia in its demands against Azerbaijan.' Bringing this issue for discussion by a third party, which directly concerns Azerbaijan and Armenia and is inherently bilateral, is not only illogical but also ignores the existence of legitimate legal claims Azerbaijan has filed against Armenia. From the Azerbaijani point of view, another issue is calling Armenian prisoners held in Baku 'captives' in the document. The Azerbaijani side believes that treating their release as a separate priority distorts reality and is an unacceptable approach. Azerbaijan is strongly surprised that nowhere in the document TRIPP, 'Trump's Path to Peace and Prosperity,' is mentioned, which, if implemented through Armenia, would link Azerbaijan’s western regions with Nakhichevan. Instead, reference is made to the Peace Crossroads project. This calls into question the seriousness of Armenia’s willingness to fulfill commitments under the TRIPP agreement signed in Washington by its prime minister, and also questions the EU’s stated support for the project, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry added. As in previous years, this statement also expresses concern about the EU monitoring mission stationed on the Armenian–Azerbaijani border. According to the Azerbaijani side, this is a propaganda tool against Azerbaijan. In Azerbaijan they expect that Armenia and the EU will take concrete steps to remove these harmful provisions that do not reflect current realities. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and draw the necessary conclusions, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry concluded. Photo: from themerchantbaku.com Peace Agreement.
