SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Newly-appointed San Francisco Supervisor Beya Alcaraz has agreed to resign from her role, Mayor Daniel Lurie said in a press release Thursday night. The 28-year-old came under fire almost immediately after her appointment a week ago. PREVIOUS STORY: SF Mayor Lurie picks 29-year-old former pet store owner as new supervisor for Sunset District There were questions about her lack of political experience, and her rocky management of a pet store that she owned until recently in the city's Sunset District. She replaced Joel Engardio, who was recalled over his support for closing the Great Highway. In a statement, Alcaraz said, "I believe that my community deserves someone who will work 24/7 to advocate for us. And I understand that today's news stories would distract me from doing that." Mayor Lurie echoed that, writing in a statement: "I believe the residents of this community deserve better." The mayor will appoint Alcaraz's replacement.
