News - A medical helicopter crashes on a Sacramento highway; three crew members are in critical condition.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KGO) -- A large-scale response is underway after a medical helicopter crashed onto a freeway in Sacramento Monday evening. The crash was reported just after 7 p.m. on eastbound Highway 50, just east of Stockton Boulevard. REACH Air Medical Services confirmed three crew members were hurt in the crash. They say no patients were on board. Investigators say the helicopter had just taken off from UC Davis Medical Center heading to Redding when it went down near 59th Street. Sacramento fire officials say the crew injured — two women and one man — were taken to local hospitals. The fire department also says one of the victims was trapped underneath the helicopter. A fire captain got help from bystanders in the area to lift part of the helicopter, extract the victim, and load that person into an ambulance. No bystanders were hurt. The CHP says all eastbound lanes of Highway 50 will be shut down for an extended period of time. Drivers are advised to avoid the area.
