The Grammy winner's 12th studio album, which she announced on Aug. 12, was officially released on Oct. 3 at midnight. Ahead of its release, Swift shared that it is the record she'd been wanting to make for a very long time. While discussing the album on Kelce's podcast New Heights, Swift explained that she wrote it while on her Eras Tour and that it comes from the most infectiously joyful, wild, dramatic place I was in in my life. The Fate of Ophelia The album opens with The Fate of Ophelia, which finds Swift singing about someone – likely Kelce – saving her from Ophelia's tragic (and fatal) ending in William Shakespeare's Hamlet. During an appearance on the U.K. radio show Heart Breakfast on the day of the album's release, Swift explained that the hook is someone comes into your life and rescues you from the fate of being driven mad by love, given Ophelia died after a mental breakdown after her lover, Prince Hamlet, killed her father, Polonius.
