News - Two teenagers detained in Copenhagen in connection with two bombings near Israeli embassy

Two Swedish teenagers were taken into custody Thursday in connection with two explosions that went off a day earlier in the vicinity of the Israeli embassy in Copenhagen, the Associated Press reported.The prosecutor's office said investigators were determining “whether the motive could have been a terrorist attack.” No one was injured in the explosions that went off early Wednesday morning in the neighborhood of several foreign diplomatic missions, although a nearby Jewish school was closed after the blasts. The teenagers, who cannot be identified by court order, were detained for 27 days.They faced preliminary charges of illegal weapons possession and carrying five hand grenades.Two of the grenades exploded when the suspects threw them at a house near the embassy, prosecutor Soren Harbaugh said.“It happened quite close to the Israeli embassy,” Harbaugh said before Thursday's court hearing.The explosions damaged the roof terrace of a neighboring house. The diplomatic mission was not damaged. Thursday's hearing was held behind closed doors after preliminary charges were announced.Danish broadcaster DR, reporting from the courtroom, said the teenagers, aged 16 and 19, were suspected of acting “in concert and in prior conspiracy with one or more offenders.” Both deny the charges, local media reported.
