Armenia PM on border demarcation commissions’ regulation: We will await Constitutional Court’s decision

by Lilit Sept. 5, 2024

At the end of the government’s cabinet session Thursday, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan reflected on the draft decision in the session’s non-reportable matters—and which refers to the regulation of joint activities of the border demarcation commissions of Armenia and Azerbaijan. "Since we are sending the matter to the Constitutional Court to check its compliance with Armenia's constitution, I assume that in case of receiving a positive decision of the Constitutional Court—I don't assume, but in that case—the matter will definitely go to the NA [(National Assembly)] for ratification, and perhaps a more detailed discussion will happen there. We did not consider it appropriate to have an extended discussion on this matter in the government session before sending [it] to the Constitutional Court, which, I believe, is the right approach in this case. More detailed political and substantive discussions will take place in the NA in the case of a positive Constitutional Court position. But in the case of a negative position, it already is a completely different story. So, there was no need to discuss [this matter] today. But on the other hand, I wanted to record: the decision has been made, and we will now wait for the Constitutional Court’s decision," said the Armenian PM.
