Street robberies increase by 150% in UK in 2023

by Lilit Sept. 3, 2024

In 2023, the number of street robberies has increased by 150 percent in the United Kingdom (UK). About 78,000 people became criminals’ victims, from whom most often mobile phones and bags were stolen, the UK Home Office informed. According to authorities, there are an average of more than 200 street thefts reported every day in England and Wales, the highest number in 10 years and 60 percent more than the annual average for the last 12 years. In this context, the UK Home Office has announced that it will hold discussions with technology companies about improving the blocking function of smartphones after theft, in order to reduce the sale of stolen devices on the secondary market.
