Caucasus is of geopolitical and strategic importance for Iran, new FM says

by Lilit Aug. 26, 2024

The Caucasus is of geopolitical and strategic importance for Iran. The latter’s new foreign minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, wrote about this on X, recapping the results of his phone conversation with his Armenian and Azerbaijani colleagues. "Yesterday and today, the foreign ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan and of Armenia congratulated me by phone. The Caucasus region is of geopolitical and strategic importance for the Islamic Republic of Iran. Historical, cultural, and geographical proximity has doubled the importance of expanding relations with the countries of the region," Iran's new FM wrote Sunday.
