Russia will dismiss all Indian nationals recruited for the war in Ukraine from the army after the country's Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked Russian President Vladimir Putin to do so, informed sources told NDTV television channel.According to them, Modi, who is on a two-day visit to Russia, raised the issue at a dinner with Putin. The Russian president promised to fulfill the Indian prime minister's request and facilitate the return of Indian citizens to their homeland, NDTV's interlocutors claimed.Indian authorities approached Moscow earlier this year about compatriots caught up in the war in Ukraine. The Indian Foreign Ministry asked the Russian Defense Ministry to allow the Indians to leave the army without waiting for their contracts to expire, The Hindu wrote.The Indian Foreign Ministry claimed that the Indians were tricked into joining the Russian army. Recruiters operating in India offered citizens of the country "high-paying jobs in Russia," and young people were promised assistance in enrolling in private Russian universities.
