The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, may become the next Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Affairs and Foreign Trade and the Federal Cultural Institutions of Belgium, after the end of his current term of office, anonymous Belgian officials say, reports Politico.eu. According to them, the appointment of Michel as the new Belgian FM makes sense, taking into account his work experience as the prime minister of the country and the President of the European Council. In addition, the Reformist Movement party, of which Michel is a member, showed high results in the elections of the French-speaking part of Belgium. Thanks to this, it can claim several positions in the Belgian government, including that of the foreign minister. According to one of the sources, Michel's appointment as the new Belgian FM is quite realistic. Charles Michel holds the position of President of the European Council since December 1, 2019. Currently, his second term in that capacity is coming to an end, and it excludes the possibility of re-election in accordance with the rules of the EU. From 2014 to 2019, Michel headed the Belgian government, and from 2011 to 2019, he was the leader of the Reformist Movement liberal party.
