News - 14 killed in torrential rains in El Salvador

Fourteen people have lost their lives in the torrential rains in El Salvador, the latter’s National Civil Protection Commission said, El Salvador newspaper reported. Eleven adults and three minors have died in as a result of these rains. Also, the authorities had to evacuate 882 people. A total of 117 shelters have been set up, and they can accommodate more than 6,000 people. Since June 13, a total of 42 landslides were recorded in this central American country, and 27 houses were damaged, according to the data of the aforementioned department. Luis Alonso Amaya, director of the National Civil Protection System, informed that the meteorologists say that about 750 millimeters of rain may fall in El Salvador in the coming days, and this exceeds a quarter of the annual norm for the country. It has been raining in many regions of El Salvador for more than 16 hours.
