News - Armenia parliament vice-speaker: Peace treaty can be signed tomorrow if Azerbaijan shows constructive approach

The positions of the Armenian side have not changed; our position on the unblocking of regional infrastructures is that we want these infrastructures to be unblocked under the principles of sovereignty, jurisdiction, equality, and reciprocity of the parties. Ruben Rubinyan, deputy speaker of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, told this to reporters at the NA Tuesday. "In general, this is our position; and I say this regardless of the context of the peace treaty [expected to be signed with Azerbaijan]. In general, our position on infrastructure unblocking is this. The Armenian and Azerbaijani sides have an agreement on the recognition of [their] territorial integrity. And this agreement was recorded in the context of the agreement recorded in 2022 in Prague, then in Sochi, then in Brussels, and then recently during the meetings of the respective border delimitation commissions under the leadership of the deputy prime ministers [of the two countries]. If all these agreements are expressed in the peace treaty, the treaty can be signed very quickly,” Rubinyan added. “Yes, we are close to finalizing the text of the peace treaty, and we [i.e. Armenia], on our part, are ready to complete it and sign. Naturally, the fact that we are not signing [the peace treaty] today means that it is not complete. If there was an opportunity to completely, 100 percent agree on everything, we would have already signed [it]. If there is a constructive approach from the Azerbaijani side, I consider the signing of the peace treaty possible as soon as tomorrow," said the deputy speaker of the Armenian NA.
