An air conditioner can be one of the biggest electricity users at home, but the right operating режимы (modes) in summer and winter can noticeably reduce costs without sacrificing comfort. In summer, avoid setting the thermostat too low. A practical target is around 24–26°C (75–79°F). Each degree lower increases consumption, especially during peak heat. Use “Cool” mode for steady cooling, and switch to “Eco” or “Energy Saving” if available—these modes reduce compressor cycling and limit extreme setpoints. “Auto” mode can also help by adjusting fan speed and compressor output based on room conditions. For nighttime, raise the set temperature by 1–2°C and activate “Sleep” mode. This matches the body’s natural cooling needs and prevents overcooling. Use “Dry” mode on humid days: removing moisture often feels cooler at a higher temperature, so you can keep the setpoint higher while staying comfortable. Keep doors and windows closed, shade sun-facing windows, and use ceiling fans to improve air circulation—better airflow lets you set a higher temperature. In winter (for heat pump units), use “Heat” mode with a moderate setpoint, typically 20–22°C (68–72°F). Big temperature jumps force the system to run at maximum power; instead, maintain a stable level and rely on scheduling. Program the unit to reduce heating when you’re away and warm up shortly before you return. If your system is inverter-based, steady operation is usually more efficient than frequent on/off switching. Year-round, clean filters every 2–4 weeks during heavy use, keep outdoor units unobstructed, and schedule periodic servicing. Proper maintenance, smart режимы, and sensible setpoints are the simplest path to energy efficiency and real cost saving.
